Armenia - Khndzoresk

After riding the aerial tramway out and back we hopped back into the car and rode to Khndzoresk, an old cave village connected by a swinging bridge that is 160 meters long, 63 meters high. None of us had been to Khndzoresk before so we were relying on information from our guide books. (Good test because they will be one of the "required texts" for our course next year.)

The area was absolutely incredible and I look forward to taking students next year and exploring more!

Well, we found the caves but didn't know how to get to them just yet...

We found a road (after our driver asked around while helping another person push their truck up a hill) that led down to a dead end at this bridge. (The bridge was absolutely terrifying but completely worth crossing!)

One of the many views of below while I was walking across the bridge.

Silly Jill.

That is a serious bridge. No joke.

Jill found her home and is ready for a nap.

A church. By this church was a caretaker of sorts for the area; he showed us really old photographs of the area from when the village was functioning. When he learned that Jill speaks Armenian fluently, he took us on a little mini tour and told us when we come back next time (dressed more appropriately for exploring) he would take us into some caves he knows how to get to.)

He wanted to show us these "old things".  A sword, handcuffs, an iron, and really large scissors. He also invited us for coffee but we didn't have time because our driver was waiting back on the other side of the bridge. Armenians are incredibly hospitable and friendly!

Because the road down to the bridge was a little sketchy, the taxi driver drove the car up the road a little ways and we walked to meet him. This photo was taken during our walk up the road. Love the poppies!

Riding back to Vayk. Of course there are now sheep in the road. Love!

Oh and more cows too.
